Biografi / Biography:

With a special interest in the body and the movement as compositional material Lindemann’s work as an composer and performer focuses on that space between you and I. In her work the body and sound form part of an exploration of the limitations and the possibilities of connection posed by the body when it is understood as a musical instrument.

‘Lindemann’s work is an invitation to draw you into that latent virtual potential inherent in the interaction between beings who mistake themselves for being separate individuals, that place we can occupy and invent together once we drop the defences. It’s an invitation and one that is well worth accepting’
Macon Holt, Passive-Agressive, February 2020

Lindemann has toured in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, Poland and South Africa as both an instrumentalist, composer and performer. She studied at the music academies in Helsinki,  Amsterdam and Odense from where she did her advanced post-graduate studies as a physical performer and instrumentalist.

In 2021 she was granted the talent prize from Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen’s foundation for her work as a composer. Earlier years she’s received the 1st prize in the TUF chamber music competition in Iceland and the Dioraphte Gold Award at Amsterdam Fringe Festival along with numerous grants.
Currently she is a part of the Danish Arts Council’s programme, ‘The Young Artistic Elite’ that supports young, Danish artists during the course of two years.

Her piece ‘Further & Back’ has been nominated to the European radio prize, The International Rostrum for Composers. The piece has been performed in various versions, last time in December 2020 by Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart in the live streamed concert series, Magische Räume at Theaterhaus Stuttgart.

‘Kirstine is a strong, upcoming voice on the scene of new music. With distinctive works where sensuality and physical expression reaches beyond the music, Kirstine mesmerizes her audience through her inciting presence.’
Kitt Johnson, X-act

During the summer of 2020 Lindemann has been part of the residency programme at Aabne Scene, Godsbanen in Aarhus while developing the sound installation ‘Between Strings’. The installation has been developed on the request of the quartet ‘Between Feathers’ based in Vienna, when commissioning works for moving instrumentalists. A full concert programme will be premiered in 2022 with works by Kirstine Lindemann (composer), Scott Rubin (composer) and Christine Bonansea (choreographer).

‘The most exciting part of the summercourse (Darmstädter Ferienkursen 2018) was presented by the workshop participants. (…) Expectations were high from the outset, with faculty bearing names such as Kubisch or Walshe, but experiences such as those from the young artists Yiran Zhao and Kirstine Lindemann from the composer-performer workshop went beyond even these.’
Juana Zimmermann, Neue Musik Zeitung, July 2018

During second half of 2020 Kirstine composed and performed the music for the theater production ‘Robin Hood’ at Folketeateret in collaboration with Jullie Hjetland and Hans Find Møller.

In 2021 she’s presenting her works at festivals abroad, among those ‘Sound of Stockholm’, ‘Sommer im Stuttgart’ and ‘Frequenz – Festival der Klangkunst’ in collaboration with Musik der Jahrhunderte, Konstmusiksystrar and Frequenzfestival Kiel.

She’s connected as a long term collaborator to the Inter Arts Center in Malmö and an active member of the feminist ensemble, Damkapellet.
